NBNW does HYDERABAD

A story of Ikat.

By NorBlack NorWhite | Apr 2, 2012

We are ikat obsessed. One, because it involves tying and dying and two, because many ikat weavers are rooted in Andhra Pradesh, the birthplace of our co-founder, Mriga.

When we met the boss lady Ikat Aunty, Suraiya Hasan Bose our hearts melted for the making of Ikat and the stories of Hyderabad. She offered snacks, stories and helped develop our first play with Ikat.

LESSONS OF THE TRIP

Andhra chillis are no joke.

Ikat weavers are so chill because they basically meditate on the loom all day.

It takes a minimum of 20 days to set up a loom, and only then does the weaving begin.

Respect a weave for a weave, because no print can ever hold the energy of a weaver.
