NorBlack NorWhite sprung from the seed of digging deeper into our roots. Raised in Toronto, we (Amrit and Mriga) made our way to Bombay in 2010 to understand where we came from and explore other ways of living. While surveying crafts, life in all lanes, and snacks from the streets, we discovered the foundations of what would eventually become NBNW--India's exceptional craftsmanship, an exploration of culture + our sweet, sweet FRIENDSHIP.

Bandhani was just the beginning. NBNW's iconic 'BomBombers' (reversible silk suits in the textile of our dreams) opened the floodgates. We knew then this was the only way of working we could fully embrace. Digging deep to learn about old-school textiles; so we can respect them as we reinterpret things into fresh formats and what we wear on the streets everyday.

To respect the past is to respect the process and the people who carry it forward.

Today, we've found continued curiosity in what we call the grey space of culture. A comfy, cosy corner of creativity where we design and build community intuitively, in response to the people and environments we exchange with most. Everything we learn is from experience, passed around between everyone we love and continue to grow with. Our Master Tailor (Mohammed Ji) has been with us from Day 1, working out of our 300 sq foot home studio in Bombay from 2010- 2016, then moving with us as we levelled up in Delhi. A lot of our community have been day ones.

It's a sweet spot that's allowed us to think of the present a little bit like a recipe passed down from one generation to the next. There's always room for curiosity and additions to suit new ideas of what it feels like to be ‘at home.’ In our bodies, communities, culture and our cosmos.

100% pure love + 200% pure intention is our formula to build the kind of world we want to create through everything we do. Over the years, we've naturally evolved into a cultural platform that mashes up explorations across (tex)style, stories, and special humans around the world. We've always prioritised women and independent POC voices long before they were buzzwords, and we will continue to long after they are gone. Smashing the patriarchy is in our blood and how we lead and organise. NBNW additionally operates as a creative studio; where we're always dreaming up BIG MOVES to shape diversity, design, and exchange across a variety of different projects.

Whether that involves going in deep to design for brands we respect like FILA, Adidas & Air Canada; or conceptualising gear for legends like Raveena, Yara Shahidi, Major Lazer & Real Madrid’s Marcelo; or building worlds for cultural institutions like London’s Victoria and Albert Museums ‘FABRIC OF INDIA’ exhibition; our love language remains the same for every medium we explore.
